Advertisement Guidelines

1. Purpose

Marina Times Nigeria Limited (hereinafter referred to as “we”, “our” or “the Company” ) Advertising Guidelines explain allowable and prohibited advertisements on https://marinatimesng.com/ (hereinafter referred to as “our website”). The Company welcomes advertising partnerships and collaborations that align with its mission of delivering educational, informative, and market-focused content. These guidelines ensure that advertisements maintain the integrity, independence, and credibility of our website.

2. General Principles

  • Transparency: All advertisements (ads) must be clearly distinguishable from editorial content.
  • Integrity: Ads must not compromise the independence of the Company’s editorial team.
  • Compliance: Advertisers must adhere to Nigerian laws, international advertising standards, and industry best practices.
  • Relevance: Ads should be relevant to the Company’s core audience (finance, business, policy, innovation, lifestyle).

3. Eligibility

  • Financial services (banks, fintech, investment platforms, insurance).
  • Business solutions (consulting, corporate services, technology).

  • Lifestyle (travel, hospitality, premium consumer goods).
  • Events (conferences, seminars, webinars); and
  • Other categories as may be allowed at the discretion of the management of the Company

4. Prohibited Advertising Categories/Practices

  • Misleading or deceptive financial products (e.g., “get rich quick” schemes).
  • Unverified cryptocurrency or forex trading platforms.
  • Adult content, gambling, or betting services.
  • Products making unsubstantiated health or medical claims.
  • Ads containing hate speech, discrimination, or offensive material.
  • Sexually provocative content [Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Nudity].
  • Identity theft.
  • Coordinating Harm and Promoting Crime (including promoting Dangerous Organisations and Individuals, and Human Exploitation]
  • Locally Illegal Content, Products or Services
  • Misinformation.
  • Sale of Human Body Parts and Bodily Fluids
  • Weapons, Ammunition or Explosives
  • Ads must not contain Profanity or curse words.
  • Ads must not contain shocking, sensational or excessively violent content.
  • Ads must not speak about Suicide or Self-injury.
  • Ads must not contain content that infringes upon or violates the intellectual property rights of a third party or our company.

5. Content Standards

  • Accuracy: Claims must be truthful, verifiable, and not misleading.
  • Respect: Ads must respect cultural, religious, and social sensitivities.
  • Clarity: Ads must avoid ambiguous language or hidden conditions.
  • Disclosure: Sponsored content must carry clear labels such as “Sponsored” or “Advertisement.”

6. Placement & Format

  • Ads may appear as banners, sponsored articles, videos, or newsletters.
  • Pop-ups or intrusive formats are discouraged to protect user experience.
  • Ads must not interfere with site navigation or accessibility.

7. Editorial Independence

  • Advertising relationships do not influence editorial decisions.
  • Marina Times does not endorse or recommend specific products or services.
  • Editorial content remains free from advertiser control.

8. Review & Approval Process

  • Ads are subject to review by Marina Times Editorial and Compliance teams.
  • Ads may be rejected or removed if found to violate these guidelines if at the discretion of the Company.
  • Advertisers must provide documentation (licenses, certifications, or approvals) for regulated products/services.
  • Due diligence will be conducted on all advertisers.

9. Data & Privacy

  • Ads must comply with data protection laws (including Nigeria Data Protection Act).
  • No unauthorized collection of user data through Marina Times NG’s platform.
  • Tracking technologies must be disclosed and approved.

10. Compensation & Disclosure

  • Marina Times NG may receive compensation/payment from advertisers or help create designs for advertisement.
  • Payment for advertisements is non-refundable.
  • Compensation does not affect editorial independence.
  • Any affiliate or sponsored links will be disclosed to readers.

11. Intellectual Property

  • Advertisers must own or have rights to all creative materials submitted.
  • Marina Times NG reserves the right to reject ads that infringe on third-party rights.

12. Enforcement

  • Violations of this policy may result in ad removal, termination of partnership, or reporting to regulatory authorities.
  • Marina Times NG reserves the right to update these guidelines as needed.

13. Limitation of Liability

  • Advertisers shall be solely responsible for the content, accuracy, and legality of all advertisements submitted to Marina Times NG. 
  • Marina Times NG shall not be liable for any loss, damage, claim, or expense arising from the publication of advertisements, including but not limited to reputational harm, financial loss, or regulatory penalties incurred by the advertiser. 
  • Advertisers agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Marina Times NG, its directors, employees, and affiliates against any claims, actions, or liabilities resulting from their advertisements, including intellectual property infringement, false claims, or violation of applicable laws. 
  • In the event of a breach of these guidelines, Marina Times NG reserves the right to remove the advertisement without refund and pursue any remedies available under law. 
  • Marina Times NG shall not be responsible for technical errors, delays, or interruptions in the display of advertisements, though reasonable efforts will be made to ensure proper placement and visibility.
