Part 1: Why Are You So Difficult?  (Recognizing Difficult People)

Life is full of relationships; at work, at home, and in our communities. Yet, even the best of days can be disrupted by someone who seems determined to make things harder. From a boss who bullies, to a neighbour who fights loudly, or a parent who criticizes relentlessly, their efforts can leave one drained. Ignoring these situations rarely helps; problems fester, stress builds, and relationships fracture. 

The first step in managing conflict is recognition. Difficult people come in many forms: 

Openly Aggressive: Sherman Tanks, Snipers, Exploders. 

Complainers: Those who find fault in everything. 

Clams: Silent, unresponsive types. 

SuperAgreeable: The “yesmen” who overcommit. 

Negativists: Pessimists who drain morale. 

KnowItAlls: Condescending experts. 

Stallers: Indecisive procrastinators. 

Envious people: Those consumed by comparison. 

The first step in managing conflict is recognition. Difficult people come in many forms: 

Food for Thought: Conflict is inevitable, but one’s response defines their peace.
