For the past three weeks, we have explored the God complex…what it is, the factors that contribute to its development, and the effects it can have on individuals and those around them. If you missed any of the previous posts, you can catch up via the link below.

Today, we turn the focus inward.

Here are a few honest questions to ask yourself:

  1. Do I believe I am always right?
  2. Do I dismiss criticism without thinking about it?
  3. Do I expect special treatment or privileges?
  4. Do I struggle to understand other people’s feelings?
  5. Do I present my opinions as facts?
  6. Do I feel uncomfortable when others take the lead instead of me?
  7. Do I believe my intentions are always better than those of others?
  8. Do I rarely apologize, even when situations go wrong?
  9. Do I feel threatened when someone challenges my authority or expertise?
  10. Do I take credit for successes but distance myself from failures?
  11. Do I believe rules apply differently to me than to others?
  12. Do I struggle to admit when I don’t know something?
  13. Do I assume others are less capable without giving them a fair chance?
  14. Do I dominate conversations or decisions without seeking input?
  15. Do I equate disagreement with disrespect?

These questions are not meant to judge, but to illuminate patterns we may overlook. Honest reflection creates space for accountability, empathy, and growth.

If you answered “yes” to a large number of these questions, you may have traits of the God complex. This does not mean you are doomed…it simply means you should be more aware and willing to change. Self-awareness is the first step toward growth. By recognizing these traits, you can begin to balance confidence with humility.

Food for Thought: If we cannot see our own flaws, how can we ever truly grow?

In the next post, we will explore practical ways to resolve the God complex.
